Phillips: Ready for comeback

In-form defender Mark Phillips would be a loss against the Gas

The news that left-back Peter Gilbert missed training Thursday was bad news, but there is real hope that centre-back Mark Phillips, his partnership with skipper Chris Barker has been huge over the Shrimpers recent great run, will be able to face Bristol Rovers at the weekend after all.

Phillips told www.echo-news.co.uk: My hamstring tightened up when I tried to change the pace I was running at so I decided to be sensible and come off. I wanted to stay on but I’ve done that in the past and made injuries worse so I learnt from that and thought it would be best to be substituted. It was more of a precaution than anything else but I hope to be able to play because it’s another big game.”

Great news, we hope, but someday who is joining last season's top scorer under the knife is young striker Harry Crawford who Blues boss Paul Sturrock revealed was going to have an operation to cure the knee injury he picked up while on trial at League two rivals Dagenham & Redbridge!

Meanwhile, 38-year old defender Christian Dailly has been training with the Blues to keep up his fitness after being released by Portsmouth back in September, good luck mate.
