“ We were fortunate to pick up a point in the end“ said a relived Phil Whelan after the game. “ Torquay really put up a fighting performance and must be disappointed they didn’t win, Darryl Flahavan kept us in the match with some terrific saves, after our display on Tuesday night we are disappointed with our show today”.

Whelan who scored his fourth goal of the season to put Blues one up continued “ I was pleased to have scored today, Damon Searle’s has put over a great corner and I have met it with my head, I should have scored with the header but luckily the ball fell kindly to me and I smashed it home with my trusty right boot”

The Blues Twenty-nine year old Captain finished off “ I was limping at the end as my knee clicked a bit, but its nothing to worry about, I have had two operations on that knee and it does play up sometimes but I will be raring to go on Tuesday night up at Halifax Town against the old boss Alan Little’s side”

Blues assistant manager David Crown had these comments to make afterwards

Darryl Flahavan - Made some great saves
“ if you had of said before the Hull City match would you take four points out of six, we would have said yes but we are disappointed as we should really beat teams like Torquay United”.

Crown continued “ Darryl’s make some super saves, but he is a good keeper and that’s what he is there for, Torquay fought well and deserved a point, the conditions especially with the wind and the rain didn’t help but they are well paid highly tuned athletes so their should be no excuses, we are just disappointed we didn’t play as well as Tuesday night”.
