“ The game today never got going. It didn’t spark into life, it was disappointing to end up on such a low note “ said Blues skipper Phil Whelan at the Mose Rose ground.

“ At least we got a point, I thought I was going to get sent off with their fellow after that eleven man skirmish, it was just handbags really and I thought it was harsh to send off one of their players. Even though we had the extra man we never looked like breaking them down and scoring, I can’t think of too many chances that we had and that is a worry for next season”.

Whelan who has another season left on his contract spoke about next term and the disappointment of this season “ The squad that we had here today, the majority will be here next season, I know the Boss is looking for two or three additions to the squad, hopefully he can bring a bit of quality in and hopefully we can have a go. This season has been disappointing, we have never looked like we would get in the play-offs, first five or six games maybe, but after that we were never really in touch with the top seven, we flickered into life in certain games but for the majority of the season it has been a bit dour. We have now got to build on this season and hopefully get into at least a play-off spot.”

Phil Whelan finished the interview with the following comment “ The Manager has just said to us in the dressing room, there is no reason why we can’t emulate the likes of Cheltenham Town next season, they are on the fringe of promotion, we are looking to be a solid side like them, when we play badly we don’t want to drop to the levels that we have this season, we need to be more consistent and perform as a solid unit.”
