Phil Whelan - It was a disgrace today, we were never at the races

Blues skipper Phil Whelan
“They came out and played us off the park first half “ was Phil Whelan’s opening comment “ it was a disgrace to be honest, we were never at the races, before we knew it we were two goals down, both the goals were a little bit lucky, but they had four or five other chances that they could have scored from, we have came out second half after changing the formation and at least we have created a little bit ourselves. First half we didn’t put two passes together”.

The Blues skipper continued “ they scored a great third goal and that has killed us off, and for the last twenty, twenty five minutes they have been all over us again. The only period we played well was just after half-time, Mark Tinkler who we know well, was excellent for them today”.

Asked about the reaction in the dressing room after the game Whelan replied “ the manager realised that it was so bad today, that he couldn’t say anything, I think when you get beat two or three nil and maybe not played too well there are things you can say, but when absolutely nothing goes right on the pitch like today, you can be there all night picking out the mistakes so he has left it like that, he will have something to say over the next couple of days, certainly, but we have just got to pick it up as we have another game on Tuesday, which thankfully is at home”.

Whelan finished off “ maybe we will change the formation, we have been playing five at the back, we might go back to 4-4-2 which I feel might suit us a little bit better, we have just got to be more positive and do things better than we did today”
