Colin Todd has signed Southend striker Billy Paynter on loan.

The 22-year old has been brought in to bolster his attacking options following the eparture of Dean Windass and Jermaine Johnson.

Paynter started his career at Port Vale where he impressed scouts with 30 goals in 119 starts.

He then to moved to Hull City before switching to Southend in the summer.

The Liverpulian hasn't appeared in Southend's first team since October and has managed just one goal this season.

Payner made his Port Vale debut as a raw 16-year-old in 2001.

He notched 14 goals for Vale in 2003/04 and was their top scorer with a further 13 the following season.

Bantams fans may remember Paynter scoring against City at Valley Parade in a 2-0 win or Port Vale in September 2004.
