Parkinson: His troops face

Parkinson: 'When Steve Tilson sees the pictures, he can have no complaints'

Addicks boss Phil Parkinson should maybe visit his GP where ex-Blue midfielder Nicky Bailey is concerned.

After his amnesia concerning the abuse the ginger one receives from the Shrimpers faithful, it's now his eyesight that's causing the ex-head Farmer problems.

Parkinson said: "I know Steve Tilson's probably come in here [to talk to the media after the game] and moaned about Nicky Bailey, but Christophe's run over and punched Bailey. The only player that the Southend management should be disappointed in is their own player."

Not sure he's had much of a moan, seemed to take it rather well in our opinion seeing what actually happened, Parky seems to forget Southend supporters have seen these antics before from Bailey but in a Blue shirt, wasn't good to see then.

Anyway, he went on with an even more laughable suggestion.

Parkinson continued: "When you run 20 yards and punch an opponent, you're off the pitch, and when someone that size punches you, you're going to go down. Sometimes as a player, you're best off going down and then you don't end up having a brawl. So Nick went down. He got punched, and that's it. It was a red card and I think when Steve Tilson sees that in the pictures, he can have no complaints."

Unbelivable. It might be 'best to go down', but roll around clutching your head in pretend pain. You cannot defend that, far better to do a Wenger and see nothing.

It certainly shouldn't be 'it'.

Parkinson concluded: "Nick ran over and pushed a player out of the way and then Christophe's run over and punched him, so I thought the ref called that about right. Nicky probably deserved his yellow. But it was also a definite red in my eyes."

There was not any raising of hands by the Frenchman, and certainly not a 'punch', before Bailey threw himself to the ground rocking and rolling.

Even his own players looked surprised. There was nothing like the 'handbags at dawn' you usually get at these sort of bust ups.

Christophe should not have got involved but who saw something? The linesman, the referee? If nothing did happen this was the poorest of decisions.

As for Parkinson, who obviously still holds a grudge against Southend for winning the League One Championship in 2005/06 from his own side Colchester, but to make something up, even in defence of your own player?
