Midson: At the double for Southend

Midson; back as a U, but maybe for only a short period

It seems striker Jack Midson was always going to return early from his loan period, after the postponed match with Crewe Alexandra that was meant to have been played on Tuesday.

Oxford United didn't want to face the Shrimpers brace scoring hero from the Cheltenham away win on their own patch on New Year's Day, though that was now two weeks ago after the adverse weather conditions has called off both fixtures planned since.

However, he now finds himself in his parent club's squad for their League Two clash with Macclesfield Town this afternoon!

Midson told www.southendunited.co.uk: "Oxford told me that even though I was going on loan I'm still in their plans and I guess that's why they've recalled me. We'll have to see if I get another chance there but I wouldn't be against another loan. I'm hopeful things can still work out at Oxford and I've not changed my opinion about the club. It's the manager's decision and it's out of my hands."

Cleverly keeping all options open there, but let's face it before his heroics at Whaddon Road most of the Blues faithful would have had him recalled a few weeks early, let alone a few days!

Now his loss at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday will be looked at as a blow!

Still, Blues boss Paul Sturrock might push for the former Histon man to return to Roots Hall.

Sturrock said: "Even though Oxford have recalled Jack we could still extend hs loan if it is right for everyone. We can loan Jack for up to 93 days and we still have 39 days left now so it is something we will weigh up when deciding on what to do in the (January) transfer window."

Many may feel looking elsewhere might be the answer anyway if we are to continue rising up the table, as Jack says, we will have to 'wait and see' along with the player.
