It has been announced today that Southend’s game against Leyton Orient will be moved to a Friday night due to consultations with Essex Police. Despite many games versus the O’s being played on a Saturday southendunited.co.uk report that after ‘ongoing discussions with the local constabulary’ the game will be moved to a Friday evening with an 8pm kick off. This will be the second occasion that the two sides will meet of an evening after drawing their previous League 2 meeting two goals a side. Freddy

Despite the club announcing that the reasons are beyond their control, one would infer that they would not need that much persuading to move the game. The Shrimpers will have played eight Friday night games at the Hall come the end of the season. The movement of this fixture will have angered many supporters due to many fans being unable to attend Friday evening fixtures whilst others simply prefer Saturday games.

Southend’s next Friday night fixture takes place this evening, of course, against second place Scunthorpe. With the East Stand sold out, a bumper crowd is expected.
