Odunsi Completes Midfield Plans

The former Millwall midfielder, who has been training with the Shrimpers throughout their pre-season campaign, was missing from the 1-0 defeat to Canvey Island at the weekend, but it is believed that this was due to a slight injury. However, having passed physiotherapist John Stannard's medical this afternoon, he has joined Jamie Fullarton, Jay Smith and Kevin Maher as the dynamos in the centre of Wignall's field.

Speaking to the club's official website, www.southendunited.co.uk, Wignall revealed, "I spoke to Leke this morning. He will be having a medical a little later on today and all being well he'll then sign a twelve-month contract". However, the Liverpudlian also hinted that Odunsi may be the end of his summer spending spree, in terms of wages at least. He said, "There might be a couple of additions but we are close to the wire on the budget now". He is thought to be chasing a defender as cover for Jamie Stuart and Neil Jenkins in case of an injury to Che Wilson, who is expected to perform at left-back at the start of the season, and a striker, if his budget will extend that far. 25-year-old former Orient loanee Leon Constantine has been training with the southeast Essex outfit, and may play a part at Maldon Town on Tuesday evening.

Odunsi was born in South London in December 1980, and joined local club Millwall as a trainee prior to the 1998/9 campaign. In total he made 22 appearances at the New Den, during which time he also had a trial with Ipswich Town and spent the first three months of last season on loan at Colchester United. Whilst in north Essex, Odunsi made just eight League and Cup appearances, having completed only three months of what was anticipated to become a year-long deal. Millwall fans will see his release as a carbon copy of that of Leon Cort, who also moved to Roots Hall from the Lions, and went on to become a huge success.
