O'Donovan: 'There is a good team here'

On loan from the Black Cats, where he was also had spells with Dundee United and Blackpool, O'Donovan had scored one goal in two years, so was obviously pleased to have doubled that at the first attempt!

He had plenty of criticism from fans of his former clubs since he moved from ireland where he was such a sensation. Maybe, along with a few injuries, being played out of position didn't help!

The Cork born player told the Echo: "I think I'm at my best as a striker so I'm delighted to be back playing there. I had been used on the right wing but I'm pleased to now be back up front and it was certainly nice to score again last Saturday too. It's good for my confidence and hopefully I can get another one tomorrow against Oldham."

O'Donovan picked up a slight thigh problem after Brighton and will have a fitness test Friday but is expected to play.

He continued: "There is a good team here and I already feel settled. We, (O'Donovan & Barnard), seem to have hit it off right away and the signs are there of a good partnership. It certainly does help playing alongside someone in such good form but he works really hard too so it's great. It's a nice place with nice weather and the manager and lads have all been great to me."

What is it about these Sunderland players and the weather? I suppose you have spend some time up there to understand!
