No to De Vries; Stepanov still hopeful

Left-back Guus De Vries has become a member of the 'failed full back trailist' club joining such illumanaries as Jamie Clapham and Lewis Emanuel.

He has now been told Southend will not be offerring him a permanent contract.

The mean and moody look didn't work for Tilly

The writing was on the wall when Johnny Herd played the whole Canvey Island friendly at left-back Tuesday evening. Poor Guss was already on his way.

Are we sure we can't afford Harding's wages, the man's down at Yeovil, for heavens sake, let's rescue him?

Meanwhile, hamstring torn Estonian, he has 80 caps for his country don't you know, Andrei Stepanov, is still hoping to get another game before Tilly decides to move on with that position as well, trying out Frenchman Juan and Spaniard Camano in the warm-up games, as well as waiting to hear back from a mystery player.

The 'I'm cute and won't a cuddle look' may still work for Tilly

As for 30-year-old Stepanov, he's determined to remain positive, telling the Echo: "Southend United remains my number one choice. However I understand that since the club needs a starting centre-back, they cannot make a decision based on the 35 minutes I managed to play. But I like the club and the town, which is really nice. Also I found that the level of football in League One is quite close to Championship. Of course there is a difference in the ability of the players, but it is not overly-significant."

Saying all the right things Andrei but I'm not sure one game for Watford allows you to judge the difference between the divisions that well but good luck anyway.

He's also been in touch with one Dr. Gunnar Männik, who is the Estonian national team doctor no less, and the good Doctor told the central defender he'll be out for at least a fortnight.

Stepanov continued: "I will do everything possible to fasten the process. I agreed with Southend United that we get in touch next Monday. If my leg is better and they still need a centre-back, I will most certainly return. I have some other options but these are from the eastern part of Europe. I would like to continue my career in western Europe, though."

We shall see.
