No Shrimper signings leaves Sturrock with problems against Stockport

Hall: Netted a brace
Ryan Hall: Looks set to start at left-back again!

So the 50-50 chance of a new defender and striker turned out to be 100-0 against, not that there were many takers; still, you never know, there might be a shock before midnight, just don't bet on it!

Blues boss Paul Sturrock then has just 13 professional players, at the moment, see below, available for the weekend jaunt to Edgeley Park to face Stockport County, who need points just as badly at the other end of the table of the Shrimpers, who have to win to have any chance of making the play-offs.

Kane Ferdinand has become the latest player to be ruled out of the League Two clash at Edgeley Park as he will instead be in action for the Republic of Ireland's under-19 team in Cyprus.

The injured list at present is; Johnny Herd (hamstring), Peter Gilbert (ankle), Luke Prosser (calf), Bilel Mohsni (ankle), Mark Phillips (groin) and Miguel Comminges (knee), Craig Easton (calf).

And they are joined by Kane Ferdinand who has been refused permission to play by the Irish FA and will be turning out in sunny Cyprus for the Republic's Under-19 side, lucky him!

But there could be more bad news.

Twitter as ever has been keeping us up to date and Echo journalist Chris Phillips tells us: 'Blues hit by further problems. Two players have sickness bug and another limped off training ground on Tuesday. Sturrock won't reveal what players they are', and that Ryan Hall, who took over from Johnny Herd in last Friday's 4-0 win over Hereford, will remain at left-back!

Great!

Meanwhile, striker Harry Crawford, who didn't take part for the reserves on Tuesday in the 1-1 draw with Oxford United, tells us midfield youngster Alex Woodyard will get a start in midfield.

Should be an interesting starting line-up at the weekend!
