Nicolau has had an up and down season with the Shrimpers, having sat on the bench for parts of the season whilst also impressing greatly on the left-wing during the Christmas period, but played in both the Play-Off Semi-final second leg and the Final.

But despite seeming to have regained his place in League One's newest members eleven, Nicolau appears unhappy with his current offer, telling Ceefax that he wants a better deal. With Che Wilson also telling the Shrimpers boss the same thing, it looks as though more than a few members of the Blues 2004/05 promotion winning team will not be playing in a navy blue shirt next season.

However Nicolau has said that he wants to stay despite turning down the original offer. "Obviously I want to stay at Southend, I really enjoy it here and things have gone well but the deal has to be right so we will have to wait and see what happens," Nicolau told the Southend Evening Echo.

On a positive note, Darryl Flahavan has told the Evening Echo that he will definitely be signing on for next season.
