Mildenhall: "The manager put a sign up in the dressing room before the game saying four matches from Wembley"

For Shrimpers fans there wasn't much to come out of the 2-0 defeat against MK Dons in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy 2nd round Tuesday evening.

One though was the Southend shot stopper Steve Mildenhall in what was arguably his best display for the club.

Even the Franchise coaching staff made him man-of-the-match!

Big Steve spoke to Blues Player after the game: "It was very disappointing at MK Dons and I don't think we really turned up. Hopefully it can be a kick up the backside for us and we will work much harder and play much better against Southampton because that's what needs to be done."

Even though the ex-Yeovil keeper was happy with his performance, he accepts it counts for nothing if the team loses and now they must focus fully on the Saints game at the Hall Friday evening.

He continued: "It was disappointing because the manager put a sign up in the dressing room before the game saying four matches from Wembley and that's certainly the incentive in that competition. We just didn't perform and now we need a reaction. We've done well in the league and need to keep it going. Southampton, like MK Dons, are a good passing team and if we play like we did on Tuesday then we will get turned over again."
