McSweeney wings off to Welling

McSweeney, 22, has not started a match for the Shrimpers first team since his second sending off of the campaign at Swansea City in mid-December.

Following an extended period on the bench, and then out of the side completely, the young defender, who is most at home in the centre of defence but has also featured at both left and right back this season, has been picked up by Wings manager Paul Parker to gain some vital first team match fitness at Park View Road.

McSweeney started for Welling in their 2-0 defeat at Merthyr Tydfil on Tuesday night.

With his contract expiring in the summer, McSweeney will undoubtedly be looking to impress during his spell in Kent.
