McCormack Set For Comeback?

Last updated : 16 November 2006 By Adam Duffill

McCormack, 22, will be best remembered by the Blues faithful for his memorable performance against Macclesfield Town back in the 2004/05 campaign, where the central midfielder's two goals – one coming in the final minute of the match – were enough to send the Seasiders home from Moss Rose with a valuable three points against then promotion contenders Town.

After Southend gained promotion through the play-offs however, McCormack's best attempts to break into a Preston side that were themselves challengers for promotion from the Championship – and are most certainly this season – were limited and a loan move to Motherwell followed.

McCormack impressed whilst on loan at Motherwell last season, making 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and at the same time earning rave reviews for his performances from various sections of the Scottish media. But despite this, McCormack has again struggled to get regular first team action this season and earlier this week handed in a transfer request to manager Paul Simpson.

And having advised former Motherwell team-mate Stevie Hammell to join Southend in the summer, surely the Republic of Ireland born player must think highly of the club?

Whatever McCormack's thoughts, Steve Tilson's views on the chances of a transfer move for the 22-year-old are very clear: “We've a number of people in mind and he is one of three we are certainly considering bringing into the Football Club” Tilson explained to the clubs official website. Tilson continued: “Alan is the type of character that you need about the building when the chips are down, he can be a little tiger for you in midfield and I am sure he could do a job for us.”

It is certainly convincing evidence that Preston North End's Alan McCormack could soon become Southend United's Alan McCormack in the near future, and TLG will let you know as soon as it happens.
