Ronald Martin told the Official Site:

"Many of you will have read about the Police Investigation during the past 24 hours.

Whilst the Police are unable to disclose any details of their enquiry it is thought this surrounds a former Councillor in Tewkesbury. The investigation by the Gloucester police was part of a nationwide enquiry.

Yesterday was bewildering for both the Club staff and my family. I of course recognise that the Police have a job to do and that their operations are by their nature thorough and detailed. They were conducted courteously and with due regard for those involved. I provided absolute cooperation and there has been no suggestion of any wrongdoing on the part of the Club or myself.

The principal purpose of this statement is to allay any concerns surrounding Southend United Football Club. The events of yesterday do not affect the Club's operation whatsoever and I remain fully focused in my efforts to bring success to the Club and its planned move to a new stadium in order to create stability, growth and longevity."
