Martin: 'Further work is to be done, it will go to the wire'

It's national news now that Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs, come on Liz give some Essex boys a break, will be dragging Uncle Ron and his team into the High Court in London on Wednesday, November 4th to ask them to cough up £700,000 or place the club into administration.

Last night Mr. Martin made another statement before the 1-0 win over the Gills.

The greatest hits, starting with the words he gave to the the Shrmpers Trust earlier in the week but worth repeating:

"We have absolutely no wish to escape any debt and as such are doing everything possible to avoid administration."

"As of this (Friday) morning we have managed to put all the building blocks in place to enable the indebtness to be met. There is further work to be done with our lawyers and in relation to the bank over the weekend and on Monday - so it will go to the wire."

"Those of you who know me personally would not expect anything to stand in the way of us winnning this battle. I cannot tell you if we ultimately win but I will never cease in my efforts to steer your Club to calmer waters and the bright future I have promised all of its supporters."

By Tuesday morning I will know for certain if we have been successful in securing the future and will issue a further statement as soon as I have a definitive position."

Then there's representatives from the Shrimpers Trust metting with Colin Wagman of Delancey Estates, who own 50% of South Eastern Leisure plc, majority shareholders of Southend United, and being told that the property company would finance the club for another season but would be unwilling to commit any further.

So there you have it, 11% of you that have voted in our poll believe there's a Dubia based Shiek ready to save us, but the Yes or No camp is split, you have some support out there Ron.

S24 has heard news regarding the administrators already looking at the books, some certain players wages may raise an eyebrow, so the quote about it going to the wire is certainly true and I would say the odds look against us, but more on that once we know what's happening.

For now, like most Shrimpers, I want to glow in Barney's last minute strike to grab a win against the Gills and forget about paying our taxes and ten point penalties for another 24 hours at least.
