Luke Guttridge
Guttridge is the third player who has arrived at the Hall in the last three days reports Cambridge United’s Official Website. Guttridge, who had earlier in the week been linked with Southend, via the Southend Evening Echo, is set to be unveiled by Southend sometime tomorrow morning and will therefore be available for Saturday’s trip to Cheltenham. The diminutive midfielder is set to start on the bench.

Tilly has now signed two midfielders in the same number of days having completed the one month loan deal of Preston Town youngster, Alan McCormack. McCormack, is expected to start the game on Saturday in place of suspended skipper Kevin Maher. The Shrimper’s first signing of the week game in the form of defender Darren Blewitt who started s game for Southend in the reserves 4-0 win against Woking.

The final signing of the week has probably raised the most eyebrows as most are surprised that Cambridge have sold, arguably, their best player, in the form of Guttridge for an ‘undisclosed fee’ as they battle against relegation. Guttridge has always been a player admired by most teams in League Two, having played 136 league games since signing for Cambridge from Torquay United in the December of 2000. The Gulls have surely rued their decision after Guttridge has proved his doubters wrong scoring 20 goals in the process. The Barnstaple born player, who has seen Cambridge through one relegation, has obviously decided he would prefer promotion and has made the switch down the M11, around the M25 and then further down the A127 to Southend.
