JJ; not good news for the squad when confidence was at it's highest

Shrimpers winger Jemal Johnson was arrested on Thursday in connection with an assault on a man outside the nightclub Faces, in Cranbrook Road, Gants Hill, Ilford the night before the Macclesfield game played on Saturday, October 29th, JJ being named as a substitute.

Johnson, who signed for the league leaders in the summer on a twelve month deal, was interviewed by officers of London’s Met Police and has now been released on bail until January.

Blues boss Paul Sturrock now has to decide whether to include him or not in the squad for Saturday's game with Bristol Rovers, where the S24 Preview had him sitting on the bench, a position he's been selected in over the last few games.

A club spokesman told the Echo: “Paul is planning to have talks with Jemal today and will then decide if to include him in the squad for the Bristol Rovers game."

Whether SUFC will stand by the player in the long term the way it did over Ryan Hall remains to be seen, we do not have the full facts about what actually happened yet, though you would have thought the Shrimpers players would have been well warned to keep away from night clubs after what happened to Ryan, especially one with such a reputation as Faces!

An official club statement on www.southendunited.co.uk said:

'Following an incident outside a nightclub in Ilford, Southend United can confirm Police have today (Friday) questioned Jemal Johnson.

Whilst a Police investigation is on going it would be inappropriate to comment on specifics.

The Football Club will endeavour to assist Police enquiries if requested to do so.

No further comment will be made at the present time.'
