Sturrock: New Shrimpers boss
Sturrock: 'Did enough to get something out of the game'

In a dull match at Gresty Road Tuesday evening Crewe grab the goal that kept their play-off challenge alive, while almost certainly punishing the Shrimpers to another season in the fourth tier, which with all the drama of the summer and the on-going financial mess the club is in, might be as good a swe could have expected.

Still, the lads put the effort in, and Blues boss Paul Sturrock felt his side did enough to earn a point at least.

Sturrock told the Press Association: "I was very disappointed to lose and felt we did enough to get something out of the game. We showed we can compete at this level but I thought the first goal was always going to be the winner."

Fair enough, and with such a small swuad injuries are always going to play their part as left-back Peter Gilbert and skipper Craig Easton were both missing.

Sturrock continued: "The people we have got missing and the body count we have at the moment is a key feature for us. Some players are finding their feet in the game too and we are really lacking in senior pros. Some people got a bit overexcited because we did really well for a wee while but we are a long chalk from being the finished article."

Well, we could try and get some players in on loan before that option is taken away from us at the end of the week, but a slip down to the lower regions of the basement division looks a better bet unless Sturrock can show all his experience and turn this recent slump around, knackered squad or not.
