Sturrock: Delighted after win

Sturrock: 'Lads rolled sleeves up and it shows what's possible if you do'

Blues boss Paul Sturrock was obviously a happy man after the late win against Gillingham which saw his side move up to ninth place in the table, and Echoman Chris Phillips tweeted a couple of quotes almost immediately after the final whistle.

Luggy was also prepared to defend Bilel Mohsni who saw red for the third time wearing a Shrimpers shirt, maybe this time a touch unluckily than before, and will miss the Plymouth game with a one-match ban, but the Southend manager still added a warning about the Frenchman's behaviour on a football pitch.

Sturrock: 'The red card was harsh. The second booking was unbelievable. But Bilel doesn't help himself with his dramatics.'

Even so, after the disappointment of Swindon at the weekend this was a real boost, ten men, a late winner; a testament to the spirit of the team Luggy built!

Sturrock: "I'm exasperated after watching that. Lads rolled sleeves up and it shows what's possible if you do. It was so different to Saturday"

And the final word to centre-back Mark Phillips, whose close range header led to mass celebrations at the Hall, and made him become the club's joint top scorer!

Phillips: "Goal and clean sheet made it a nice night for me. We defended well as a team and got the reward for that."

Followed up by his own tweet: 'Absolutely buzzing with my winner and so happy with our team performance especially with 10 men---plus I'm top goal scorer again.'

Joint Mark, joint, remember Liam, I know he's been suspended for a couple of weeks!

Meanwhile, injured striker Barry Corr, who we may well see on Saturday against Plymouth, possibily starting on the subs bench with another hopeful returnee in Neil Harris, was obviously not as pleased with the match official as he was with the result!

Corr: 'Referee tonight.....well. What a great performance though, down to ten men and dug in to get a great win against one of the promotion faves.'

Followed by: 'A point off 3rd place & so much more to come. We've got good players & the best manager in the league so we'll be alright. Onwards & upwards.'

Blimey, Baz wants to make sure he gets picked when fit!

And then even some congratualtions for the goalscorer, I think!

Corr: 'Well done phillo, great header & clean sheet. But you won't be top goalscorer for long.'

Who does he mean!

But I'm not going to calm them down, well done all round, great win indeed.
