Dickinson: Southend can go up

Dickinson: 'I injured my ankle ligaments quite badly last season'

Shrimpers striker Liam Dickinson has plenty of support in the right places.

Blues boss Paul Sturrock said when he signed the Salford born hitman in the summer:"Liam's a good size and he had a good goalscoring record in this division a few seasons ago with Stockport County. That got him a big move to Derby but since then he's been a bit nomadic but we feel he has the attributes to be a success here."

Before that Argyle boss Peter Reid thought he had him!:"Liam is still young and a big, strong lad. I've spoken to the boy, I've met him and he just needs to get his career back on track. I think it's a great opportunity for us to be the club where he does that. I can only help the boy, he's got to do it himself and it's seems to me that he's got the bit between his teeth ready to do a job for us so I'm delighted that he's agreed to sign."

Whoops!

Yes, Dickinson, having had some successful trails at Home Park, was about to sign for Argyle when he saw the future, and buggered off down Essex way, where we are at least paying our players nowadays, just.

And he would like to repay the faith shown in him by Luggy by putting even more pressure on the struggling Pilgrrims.

Dickinson told www.echo-news.co.uk: “I trained with Plymouth before coming down to Southend and want to prove to their players and fans that I made the right decision. It’s been frustration having to miss the last three matches and it’s seemed a lot longer than a week and half without a game. But hopefully I can carry on from where I left off because I was just starting to play well.”

Liam is the club's joint top scorer with three goals before a straight red  in the JPT clash with Crawley Town last months saw him sitting in the stands for three games which the Shrimpers have picked up four poiints from nine and sit just outside the paly-off zone.

While out though he at least could rest an annoying ankle injury which with a pain killing injection seems to be keeping under control before a possible operation at the end of the season.

Dickinson revealed: “I injured my ankle ligaments quite badly last season and I had still been experiencing a bit of pain with it but it’s been feeling a lot looser since the injection. I haven’t been able to train too much because of it but I’m feeling good and I’m excited about this weekend’s game.”

And we're looking forward to seeing you back Liam, and going clear at the top of the scoring chart that centre-back Mark Phillips is getting far too cocky.
