LDV Vans Trophy Draw

Last updated : 13 December 2003 By Robert Craven

Southend United reached the draw for the southern semi-finals of the competition, made live on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM show presented by Tim Lovejoy and Helen Chamberlain, for the second time in four years. The last time was in 2000/1, when Blues crashed out to Brentford by four goals to two on aggregate in the two-legged area final. This time the Shrimpers have again been drawn against a Second Division side, this time table-topping Queens Park Rangers. The good news is that the match, likely to take place on Tuesday 20th January 2004, will be played at Roots Hall.

In the other southern section semi, north Essex rivals Colchester United have been handed a tricky looking tie at struggling Third Division outfit Northampton Town. In the northern matches, Sheffield Wednesday will play at home against Scunthorpe United, whilst Blackpool will host the winners of the postponed clash between Halifax Town and Lincoln City.
