Though it was while he drifted back into the centre that he scored the winner Tuesday night at Barnet Francis has spent most of the pre-season being tried out as an alternative right-winger.

A position Blues boss Steve Tilson believes he's more than suited to telling the official site: "Francis Laurent has been doing well down the right wing and it was good to seehim score. It's a new position for me, but we are short of bodies in that position and it's been good to try him out."

Speaking to the Echo after the game the Frenchman agrees: "I actually think right wing is my best position. It gives me more time and space to run with the ball and that's what I like. Hopefully there will be chances for me to play there next season but mostly I just want to be in the team because I want it to be a big season for me."

Laurent has now scored three goals in the seven warm-up matches so far and insists spirits are high in the Shrimpers camp: "Scoring again against Barnet is good for my confidence and I think it's good for the confidence of the whole team that we've won. We have a good team here and I think we can have a good season."
