What a lovely way to start a very tough week on the fields of play for SUFC.

A club statement has been released Monday moring confirming that once again Shrimpers supremo Ron Martin has signed the cheques, believed to have been in the region of around £20,000, ahead of the Her Majety's taxman pushing for the ultimate sanction.

www.southendunited.co.uk told us: 'Southend United can advise supporters that there are no oustanding amounts due to HM Revenue and Customs. HMRC issued a winding-up petition last month when payment was a few days late. Written confirmation has now been received from HMRC confirming the petition will be withdrawn in the High Court on the 16th March.'

And the players and staff have been paid as well we're reliably informed.

So the sorry saga goes on, and more than likely on and on, until Sainsbury's get bored or someone finally calls time on this financial mess.

Who 'someone' is, and more importantly how, are matters that have been debated for over a year and will continue to raise concerns about the future of this football club.
