Kyle Asante; on the move once again
He's still young at 20 but one is starting to wonder if Shrimpers striker Kyle Asante is ever going to make that first team breakthrough.
Anyway, for now he's joined Ryman Premier League outfit, and local Essex rivals, Canvey Island on loan for a month, many a pre-season friendly has been played at Park Lane.
Kyle came up through the successful youth system at Southend, however his career at the club was put on hold in late 2009 when he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Having recovered, he went on to strike a hat-trick against Luton reserves in February of this year which was enough for Blues boss Paul Sturrock to offer a first professional contract, which led his full debut a month later, scoring his first Football League goal in a 2-1 defeat to Stockport County.
In total Asante has made 1 full appearance and 8 off the bench, the first being against Gillingham in that ill-fated cup tie, we lost 3-0, when he replaced James Walker, now whatever happened to him? (Woking in the Conference South as it happens!)
Kyle spent a period on loan to another Ryamn Premier side Concord Rangers earlier this season.
He will go straight into the squad for the Gulls visit to Billericay Town Saturday afternoon.
