Jenkins Placed on England Standby

Neil Jenkins could feature for England under 20's.
Jenkins, who also turned out for the the young English side whilst at Wimbledon - he even captained the side a few times - could miss Blues LDV Vans Trophy clash at Swindon Town on 22nd October as a result.

Other news from Roots Hall is that manager Rob Newman is hoping to bring a young striker in on loan from a Premiership side. Newman has confessed to watching a few top flight sides and he has targeted a player to bring to Roots hall on a short term deal; presumably to give a break to out-of-form striker Graeme Jones.

Mark Beard and Danny Maye, two players who only signed three month deals with the Shrimpers have also had talks with Newman this week, and rumours are abound that Maye, despite impressing in the reserve team in recent weeks, has been released from his contract, despite being nearly a month and half from it's climax. This story however has yet to be confirmed. It also seems that Blues left wing problems - apparently not solved by Maye - could be assisted by joint assistant manager Steve Tilson who has this week declared that he will be willing to turn out for first team action when he returns to full fitness. Having played 20 minutes in the reserve match at Wycombe Wanderers, Tilson could start Wednesday's Combination encounter with Cardiff City at Roots Hall.

Finally it appears that John Gowens, Blues physio since 1994 could also be on his way out of Roots Hall. Gowens joined Blues from Coventry City; where he was also a youth team player.
