Jack: 'Feeling good, feeling fresh and I'm ready to crack on with it'

The Blues new back-up keeper, 33-year old Kelvin Jack, has been signed until the end of the season on a non-contract basis.

At the height of his career Kelvin won 33 caps for Trinidad and Tobago, appearing in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

However, during a trail with Barnsley in 2008 he suffered a freak accident that resulted in a broken leg and 15 months out of football.

Jack told www.echo-news.co.uk: "It's taken me about 15 months to be able to even start training and then it is about getting your fitness back, your timing and your confidence. I think that is the biggest thing but now I am feeling good, feeling fresh and I'm ready to crack on with it. I'm delighted to be back in the game."

The Shrimpers No.2 shot-stopper to regular keeper Steve Mildenhall is gracious enough to pass on his thanks to both mate Captain Adam and United goalkeeping coach Lee Turner in helping Kelvin return to the English game.

Kelvin continued: "Southend have been very good to me. The skipper here Adam Barret is a close friend of mine, we went to school together in America and he spoke to Lee Turner to see if he could help get me fit. It's been brilliant and I've really enjoyed being here. I never thought about quitting once as I have a very supportive wife and family. Lee deserves some credit for that also as he was very positive. He pushes me and I am really, really grateful for that."
