Jack goes as contract talks start for the Shrimpers

Last updated : 12 May 2010 By westfeild shrimper

Kelvin Jack; many may have forgotten he was here in the first place

Not the most surprising news that goalkeeper Kelvin Jack is the first player to leave the club as the close season kicks-in.

Kelvin, a mate of Blues skipper Adam Barrett, was brought in as cover for Steve Mildenhall when Ian Joyce returned to the States on a non-contract basis.

However, a hamstring injury picked up in one of his few reserve outings, where the poor bloke got plenty of exercise picking the ball out of the net, meant that the under-18 shot stopper Daniel Bentley was seen more on the first team subs bench than the former Trinidad and Tobago keeper.

Meanwhile, and more important to the Roots Hall faithful, is the talks that will start soon enough with five other out-of-contract players; Franck Moussa, Damian Scannell, Johnny Herd, Osei Sankofa and Scott Spencer.

All of them, yes young Osei can do a job in League Two, are vital to; a), Southend being able to build a squad that can seriously make a promotion charge and, b), give something for the long suffering Shrimpers fan base to smile about on what could be a very long summer indeed.

Nick Clegg should have our problems, hang on if he gets a chance to look at the treasury books he may have.

UPDATE: One of the out of contract four will definitly be here next term, go here:
