'I've only spoken to Shrimpers about Simon' says Scott. So could Francis become a Farmer?

Scott: 'Things haven't worked out for Simon these last couple of years'

Shrimpers player-of-the-year Simon Francis on his way to Brentford looked a done deal earlier this week, with Southend confirming they had accepted an offer from 'an unnamed League One club'.

Not so said Blues boss Steve Tilson, Simon's in Cyprus, anyway it would be a 'sideways move'!

Now Bees boss Andy Scott has said he's made 'enquiries', but nothing more!

Scott told www.ealinggazette.co.uk: "Simon is a player we like and I have spoken to Southend about him. Things haven't worked out for him these last couple of years, but you don't play for teams like Sheffield United without being a good player. But he's just one we're looking at."

Aside from playing for Sheffield United making you a 'good player', there seems to be no actual cash offer being made for young Simon from Griffin Park.

So is there another club involved here?

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 League Two Brentford Charlie MacDonald - 0

MacDonald: 'Simon is one of the best right-backs in League One'

Well, one former team mate of Francis, striker Charlie MacDonald, would love his buddy to join him in West London, and he threw a spanner in the works by mentioning......Colchester United!

Peterborough, even with fat man Fry, returning to the table after Simon turned them down in the January transfer window fair enough, but the Farmers, if relegation was not cruel enough.

Hopefully this was all before ex-ColU boss Aidy Boothroyd was sent to Coventry, and the new head Farmer will want nothing to do with it!

Anyway Mac told www.hounslowchronicle.co.uk: "Simon's technically very good. He's a great server of the ball and a good athlete. He's one of the best right-backs in League One, so there's going to be other clubs interested in him. Colchester and Peterborough wanted him before, and I think he'll weigh up his options before making a decision."

Suntanned Simon will have a decison to make soon enough.
