"It's Unacceptable" - Ron Martin

Ron Martin: Will not sit back and do nothing.
Martin's words to the local media come after Southend slipped to their ninth League defeat in twelve matches against Carlisle United at Brunton Park on Saturday afternoon, "I have said before that it is unacceptable for Southend United to be seventeenth in Division Three" stated Martin.

Martin then admitted that; "Now I have some tough decisions to make as we have three options available to us. We can change the squad and players that have underachieved, we can bring in a new manager or we can sit back and do nothing. But one thing we certainly will not do is the latter"

And Southend supporters, particularly those who witnessed the shambles at Brunton Park and the incredible seventh home defeat of the campaign against Scunthorpe United, will be glad to hear that Martin isn't taking the situation lightly and with few resources to bring in new players and seems rather apparent that manager Rob Newman and his two assistants Steve Tilson and David Crown should become very wary of the second of those options, especially with a tough away match at Shrewsbury Town looming on Saturday.

Martin was quoted saying before Christmas that nothing less than twelve points over the festive period will satisfy him. Well, despite the postponement of the New Years Day fixture against Oxford United, Newman's men picked up just one point, that coming from a Boxing Day draw at Cambridge United.

"I sais before Christmas that this was a crunch period for getting our season back on track, but the slide has continued and the situation needs to be addressed" sressed Martin, but the Blues cheif admitted that "I am not one for knee jerk reactions and will certainly review all the options before deciding what course of action is best for this Club".

Should defeat arise on Saturday against the side who three days ago knocked Everton out of the FA Cup, then one would suspect that Martin will begin to implement his changes.
