Johnson: 'Did score in a behind closed door friendly with Dagenham at the training ground this week'
Dropped after only three starts, Shrimpers winger Jemal Johnson has been chasing the form that made Blues boss Paul Sturrock believe he was the man that could work with fellow wideboy Ryan Hall to supply the ammunition for new strikers Neil Harris and Liam Dickinson, especially in the continued absense of 21-goal man Barry Corr, sadly, as the player himself admits, it wasn't to be, yet!
Johnson told www.echo-news.co.uk: “It would be great to get another chance at Port Vale because I’ve been disappointed by my input so far at Southend. I’m a lot better than the form I’ve been showing so far and I think that’s because I’ve been getting quite nervous about the matches which is very unlike me. I think what’s happening is more about my mental approach than anything else and I need to try and be more relaxed about things because I have been playing well in training. I probably just need one thing to suddenly go my way to make me feel better but I did score in a behind closed door friendly we had with Dagenham at the training ground this week so that has definitely helped my confidence.”
Closed door friendly, sorry, didn't hear about that one, anyway, good luck to Jemal, strange to hear a yank talk about lack of confidence, who is very important to Luggy's two-wideboy policy that he certainly started with but has had to abandon in the short term.
We will wait and see if he gets another chance at Vale Park where he turned out half a dozen times on loan last year, especially as we get an update of news regarding injuries.
