Hooper: Non, je ne regrette rien!

Macca, having declared himself fit for the game if it had taken place, revealed all about his new film star appearance. Roll out the red carpet!

"My nose is quite swollen and out of place but it's just one of those things and you just have to forget about it and get on with the game. It's still sore and if I took another knock on it then I could be in trouble but I'm not going to think about that. The more you worry the more it is likely to happen and, other than spoiling my good looks a bit, I can't see there being a problem and we want to get another good result against Scunthorpe."

Macca praised the fans, who I have to say from my seat in the West Stand, really got behind the team throughout the game when they needed it most.

He continued: "The fans were brilliant on Saturday and I don't think I've ever heard Roots Hall like that for a league game before. They were right behind us all the way through the game and we are going to need that again tonight. Not only does it make us feel better and spur us on but it also intimidates the opposition and starts to make them feel anxious about their own performance. We want that again but Scunthorpe who have players who produce the goods every week and we need to match them."

Meanwhile, Scunny leading marksman Gary Hooper insists he has nothing to prove when he returns to his former club Southend for the first time tonight.

The ex-Tottenham apprentice struggled for two years to try and make the grade at Roots Hall, scoring just four times in 12 starts and 26 substitute appearances for the Essex outfit. But since his arrival at Glanford Park in a £125,000 deal last summer, his career has gone from strength to strength.

His two-goal salvo at Millwall on Saturday took his total for the season to 20 and sees him lying in third place in the League One scoring charts behind Matty Fryatt of Leicester on 24 and Jermaine Beckford of Leeds on 21. Those dark days at Southend are now well behind Hooper.

Speaking to the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph Hoopper said: "Do I have any regrets about coming to Glanford Park? I am looking forward to going back to Southend and hopefully I can get on the scoresheet again there. I don't feel I have anything to prove to them. I just want to go back there now and do well for Scunthorpe. I am sure we will have to play well down there because it will be a tough game, just like it was against them up here earlier in the season. At the start of the season I never thought about scoring 20 goals - but the gaffer gave me my chance and I have tried to take it".

Don't worry Hoops, we'll see you again soon enough!
