Grant: Late equaliser for Southend

'How many fingers am I holding up?'; 'How's the face?'. Grant a doubt v Barnet

Anthony Grant is a major doubt for the Barnet match in just three days time.

The travelling Shrimpers faithful were more than a touch concerned when they saw their star midfielder Grant carried off at Torquay after a kick in the face from Gulls skipper Lee Mansell on 58 minutes.

He was replaced by Lee Sawyer who should start if Snop Dog is ruled out for the Bees clash at Roots Hall Tuesday evening, and possibily even Northampton Town next weekend, also at home.

The only news from the club at the moment is Grant was not fit to continue due to suffering concussion and could miss the Bees clash.

We're sure Granty will do his best to be up and running and ready for the brace of League Two games, which by the end of them could see the Shrimpers sitting in the top seven.

As long as the former Chelsea youth doesn't believe there are 44 players on the pitch!

Any definitive news and we'll post immediately here on S24.

Blues boss Paul Sturrock would only tell BBC Essex for now: "Anthony Grant is a bit concussed. I think the boot in the face was the problem and the doctor decided he was too badly injured to carry on."

Luggy told a similar tale to www.echo-news.co.uk: "Anthony got a kick to the head and will definitely be a bit sore for a while. He was concussed and cut as well so the doctor advised us to bring him off and you would have to say he could be in trouble for the game on Tuesday now"

Meanwhile, his team-mate 14-goal Barry Corr was in a more joking mood when commenting about the Granty's troubles.

Corr told the Echo: "He got a cut to the face so it's just as well he isn't that good looking any way!"
