Walker gets another chance of showing what he can do, this time in Kent
Serial loanee James Walker, still only 22, has been inconsistancy personified since joining the Shrimpers and has never been able to hold down a regular spot in the first team.
After showing such promise in his initial loan period at Roots Hall, he never reached the heights expected of a player signed for a six-figure sum, mainly being reduced to substitute cameos towards the end of his time here.
There will be though always the memory of that last minute equaliser against Orient last season, what a strike!
He made 53 appearances for Southend overall scoring 8 goals.
After giving Hereford a go earlier this season in League Two, it's now down to the garden of England and, Gillingham.
As he joined Gillingham as a free agent, though on an initial three-month contract, he will be able to play in the fixture at the Priestfield Stadium against Southend on Easter Monday.
Gills boss Mark Stimson told: "Going back to my early days with the club, we played away at Yeovil, James was on loan from Charlton, played in that match, scored once and set up the other in a 2-1 win. We tried to sign him after his loan deal finished but unfortunately couldn't meet the fee that Southend were prepared to pay. Over the last 18 months he hasn't played as often as he would have liked but I am very much looking forward to working with him."
Best of luck James.
