He never played for the Loftus Road side, and moved west to Bristol Rovers in 1996. Two seasons later he moved back to London, joining the O's as a set-piece specialist. Was linked with QPR (again), Millwall and Wimbledon during the summer, but decided to stay at Brisbane Road.

Dean Smith
Squad Number: 4
Position: Defender
Age: 31 Height: 6ft Weight: 13st 3lbs
Born: West Bromwich
Career (471 League Appearances/ 50 Goals): Walsall (142/2), Hereford United (117/19), Leyton Orient (212/29)
This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 18/1
Details: Ever-present so far this season, Smith is a tough-tackling central defender, who also has the capacity to score goals, smashing home 10 in the 1998/9 season. Smith, who is also powerful in the air and a more than adequate man-marker, moved from first club Walsall to Hereford for £75,000 whilst they were still in the Football League. Three seasons later the Edgar Street side were relegated, and he signed for Orient for £42,500. Smith is the longest-serving O's player, and is highly professional in his role as club captain.

This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 17[1]/0
Details: Harris was another player to have a spell with the Shrimpers. He came to Roots Hall in 1996 under Ronnie Whelan who brought him from former club Liverpool, and established himself as a competant right-back, making a total of 94 League and Cup appearances during his time with the Blues. He even captained the side during the 1997/8 season, and wa on the verge of an England Under-21 cap. However, he was snapped up by Orient a season later, and since joining the East London outfit he has slotted in as a central midfielder, showing off his versatility.

Carl Hutchings
Squad Number: 8
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Age: 28 Height: 6ft Weight: 11st 6lbs
Born: Hammersmith
Career (267 League Appearances/ 15 Goals): Btrentford (162/7), Bristol City (42/3), Brentford [loan] (8/0), Exeter City [loan] (2/0), Southend United (43/4), Leyton Orient (10/1)
This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 16/1
Details: Hutchings is the most recent of the ex-Southend players, makin the switch to the Mtachroom Stadium just eight months ago. Despite having impressed during his time at Roots Hall with a number of instrumental and inspiring displays, the verstaile player caused a great deal of animosity in South Essex by claiming that the Blues were devoid of ambition and that he had more chance of getting out of the League with Orient - his new side were second from bottom of the Third Division at the time! The Londoner started his career at Brentford as a trainee, moving into the first team and appearing in 170 League appearances in two spells. He had a spell at Bristol City, but his three years there bore little fruit and a short loan spell at Exeter preceeded his time at Southend. Currently struggling to overcome a hamstring twinge.

This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 15[1]/3
Details: The strong and aggressive front-runner began his career at Blackpool, moving from a trainee to a full-time pro in his four years there. A lack of oppotunities meant he switched to Lincoln, and he madeuray, having turned down Colchester. Hit his first goal of his second spell against Blues in their 2-1 victory at the Matchroom Stadium in March.

Ciaran Toner
Squad Number: 10
Position: Midfielder
Age: 21 Height: 6ft 1in Weight: 12st 2lbs
Born: Craigavon
Career (12 League Appearances/ 0 Goals): Tottenham Hotspur (0/0), Peterborough United [loan] (6/0), Bristol Rovers (6/0), Leyton Orient (0/0)
This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 6[2]/1
Details: Toner served his apprenticeship at Spurs, but couldn't break through into an over-crowded Tottenham midfield, and was sent on loan to Peterborough last season. The spell was not extended, and he joined Bristol Rovers permenantly in March. He made six appearances there, but chose to join Orient in May. He has captained the Northern Ireland Under-21 side, playing twelve games for them in total. Has excellent distribution skills, and works hard throughout the game.

Matthew Brazier

Born: Whipps Cross
Career (133 League Appearances/ 8 Goals): Queens Park Rangers (49/2), Fulham (9/1), Cradiff City [loan] (11/2), Cardiff City (56/3), Leyton Orient (8/0)
This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 15/0
Details: The cultured left-footed midfielder was born just miles from the Brisbane Road ground in Whipps Cross, but started out at QPR. He made very few appearances in his four years there, but joined Fulham as they mad their ascent up the Football League. Chances were few and far between at Craven Cottage, and he joined Cardiff for £100,000 after a loan spell at Ninian Park. He settled in well in South Wales, but he fell out with Alan Cork and made the move to Orient on the last day of January this year.

Scott Barrett

This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 0/0
Details: Barrett has signed a contract for this season, a campaign that will take him past his 40th birthday. The veteran (and slightly over-weight) shot-stopper began his career at hometown club Ilkeston Town and moved to Wolves in 1984. Three yeasr later h made a £10,000 move to Stoke, but once gain he couldn't command a regular spot, and loan spells at our rivals Colchester and Stockport saw him join the former in 1990. Two seasons (and no League appearances) later he moved to Gillingham on a free transfer, before finally going to Cambridge and playing first-team football. In the middle of Roy McFarland's spell he found himself in the Reserves and he linked up with Tommy Taylor in 1999. This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 8[4]/3
Details: The tall target man is now in his second spell at Brisbane Road, having started his career there. He spent four seasons with Orient, hitting home 20 League goals. A fee of £200,000 from Plymouth was enough to entice Nugent to Home Park, where he scored at a goal every four games. By September 1995 the time had come to move, and Bristol City paid £75,000 for his services. Two full seasons with a limited number of goals meant another change, this time to Cardiff, where he hit 25 goals two seasons. However, he was another to lose his place under Cork and he joined the O's along with Brazier in January.

Jabo Ibehre
Squad Number: 18
Position: Forward
Age: 19 Height: 6ft 2ins Weight: 13st
Born: Islington
Career (36 League Appearances/ 6 Goals): Leyton Orient (36/6)
This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 2[6]/1
Details: Ibehre made an instant impact at the end of the 2000/1 season, hitting two goals in just five League games. Last year was less successful as the flambouyant and confusing striker scored only four times in 28 games. He was out with injury until March, and pre-season witnessed the powerful forward struggle to overcome a groin strain. Two seasons ago he smashed 19 goals in just 26 games for the Under-19 team.

Glenn Morris

Age: 18 Height: 6ft Weight: 11st
Born: Forest Gate
Career (10 League Appearances/ 0 Goals): Leyton Orient (10/0)
This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 5[6]/0
Details: Another of the impressive batch of youngsters who have remained at Brisbane Road following the summer clear out. Barnard is a pacy defender, capable of stringing together a number of good passes. Once scored a hat-trick for the Under-19 side in just ten minutes.

Jamal Campbell-Ryce (on loan from Charlton Athletic)
Squad Number: 28
Position: Midfielelder
Age: 19 Height: n/a Weight: n/a
Born: Lambeth
Career (0 League Appearances/ 0 Goals): Charlton Athletic (0/0)
This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 16[1]/2
Details: Campbell-Ryce is another short but quick midfielder who has played almost all of the O's games this season. Excellent crosser who scored one and set up the other in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Bristol Rovers. Currently on a three-month loan spell at the Matchroom from Charlton.

Justin Miller (on loan from Ipswich Town)
Squad Number: 29
Position: Defender
Age: 21 Height: 6ft Weight: 11st 7lbs
Born: Johannesburg, South Africa
Career (0 League Appearances/ 0 Goals): Ipswich Town (0/0)
This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals):

Details: The South African-born centre-back was captain of Ipswich's F.A. Premier Reserve League winning side. He is composed, and excellent passer and has plenty of time on the ball, coming through the ranks at the Academy. Reads the game very well, and has had his loan spell at Orient extended.

Ezomo Iriekpen (on loan from West Ham United)
Squad Number: 31
Position: Defender
Age: 20 Height: 6ft 1in Weight: 12st 2lbs
Born: East London
Career (0 League Appearances/ 0 Goals): West Ham United (0/0)
This Season (Total Appearances[as substitute]/Goals): 2/1
Details: Iriekpen is currently in his fifth year at Upton Park. He has moved to the O's in order to get a first-team game, although it could have been so much different. He was primed and ready to make a substitute appearance for the Hammers at Old Trafford in January 1999, in the process becoming West Ham's youngest ever player. However, Mike Reilly blew up, and the chance was lost. He captained the youth team at the Boleyn, and played for England Under-18's before a serious knee injury meant he missed the entire 2001/2 campaign. A six-month loan deal in Leyton started a week ago with a debut goal against Peterbrough in the LDV Vans Trophy.
Others who could feature...

#13 Aaron McLean: A pacy front-runner who is strong on the ball. Last season saw McLean smash five in five for the Under-19's and six in eight for the Reserves.

#14 Scott Canham: Versatile midfielder who scored a goal against Everton in the F.A. Cup at Goodison Park last year. Can pass with either foot, Canham moved from West Ham to Brentford for £25,000 in 1996, but has rarely appeared for any of his teams.

#15 Billy Jones: Left-back who is solid on the ball, passing the ball with aplomb. Made 16 League appearances last year.

#19 Steve Watts: Strong tricky forward who has scored 29 League goals in 126 games in four years at Orient. A spell of two goals in two games at Welling attracted Tommy Taylor to sign him, but under Paul, Brush he has mainly been confined to the bench.

#24 Daniel Hatcher: Played ten games before the start of this season, Hatcher is a lively forward and natural finisher. Can be used on the right wing.
