On Saturday August 18th Millwall played Oldham Athletic in a League One fixture, and a young left back on loan from Wolves called George Friend started for the Lions. They won 2-0.

The Roots Hall faithful will be pleased with a similar result this weekend.

Friend: 'I've only heard good things about the manager Steve Tilson and the players.

George is well aware it would be the second time in just over a month he would be facing the Latics accepting it will be a 'hard game'.

However, the 22-year-old has not had long to get to know his own team mates, after arriving only 24 hours before the match at Brighton, 'I wasn't sure of all the players names during the game', but he's pleased to be here.

He told the Echo: "It was a great first game to play in and I'm delighted to be here at Southend. I've only heard good things about the manager Steve Tilson and the players. And one of my best mates lives in Essex too so he told me all about the area which has helped. I'm looking forward to the games, starting with the one against Oldham."

The defender nearly joined the injury list at the first attempt, opening up a old cut and had to come off to change his shirt and shorts as the Yellow kit showed up the blood too much!
