Freedman could be back on the bench

Freedman, who has been out for a month with his latest thigh injury, had been expected not to be available for at least another fortnight.

However, he returned to training yesterday and should be on the bench this evening.

Speaking to the Echo Blues boss Steve Tilson said: "It's good to have Dougie back and he will be involved in some capacity. He's a quality player and his experience is always useful. He came through training without any problems and it's good to have him back."

Dougie joined Southend from Crystal Palace in September but has only made 14 appearances, scoring five goals, due to a succession of thigh injuries.

However, as long as there's no doubts about his long term fitness, to see him ready and waiting to come on and finish the Pool off would be a welcome sight.

Welcome back Dougie!
