Francis: 'Les is a top man and always has a smile on his face'

Las Parry was a mere physiotherapist when right back Simon Francis was loaned out to the Birkenhead club from Sheffield United, (17 appearances and 1 goal during the 2005/06 season), but after the John Barnes fiasco he's now the team boss, and will remain so until at least the end of the season.

Simon told www.echo-news.co.uk: "When I was at Tranmere Les was the physio and I was a little surprised when he became the manager but he's a great character. He's a top man and always has a smile on his face. Everyone at the club likes him and would want to play for him so I'm sure that's why he's doing well. I really do wish them all the best because I would love to see Les be a success, but only after tomorrow's game of course!"

Tranmere have lost only once in their last four games and can overtake the Shrimpers if they win at Roots Hall Saturday afternoon.

The United defender continued: "The gap between ourselves and Tranmere is quite small now and we want to make it bigger. We have been playing quite well but we need to start turning performances into points and be more clinical in front of goal when chances come our way."
