Last updated : 19 December 2002 By Mark Wallis
A goal-getting striker in his playing days, particularly with Leicester City and his hometown Club Shrewsbury Town, Rowley netted an incredible 484 Football League goals and hold what will undoubtedly remain the League record for decades to come.

Rowley managed the Shrimpers during a successful spell between 1970 and 1976 and also had a spell in the hotseat at Sheffield United.

Rowley passed away peacefully in his Shrewsbury home. We at The Little Gazette offer our sincere condolences to his frend and family and we hope that United honour Rowley in a fitting tribute against Scunthorpe United i ten days time.
