Flood: 'I’m keen to do well and help the club get promotion'

The Shrimpers moved fast to secure the Irish forward's services until the end of the season after he impressed in a behind-closed-doors trial match against the Farmers on the January 4th.

The Dublin-born 27-year-old numbers St. Patrick's Athletic, Dundalk, Shelbourne, Galway and Bohemians among his former clubs, with his last one passing on the nickname of Bisto, no we don't know, smooth as......!

Flood received international clearance from the Irish FA enabling him to make the trip to Northampton for last Saturday's League Two clash at Sixfields which his new side won 5-2 but he was not selected for the squad.

However, we may see him on the bench for this weekend's top five clash with Shrewsbury Town, and the club have oragnised another closed-door game this week for him to gain more match fitness.

Flood told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I’m really happy to have come to Southend and hopefully I can soon start to get some games and goals. It’s a good opportunity for me and I would like to stay here beyond this season, so I’m keen to do well and help the club get promotion."

And even with Southend being the fourth tier's top scorers Flood had no hesitation in putting pen to paper and becoming another in the promotion pushing Essex boys long list of impressive strikers.

Flood continued: “The manager said straight away about signing me after I came over to play in a game and I was obviously pleased to hear that. I’m pleased everything has been sorted out and I can’t wait to be involved because the team here is full of confidence right now.”
