Blues boss Paul Sturrock was as good as his word as Johnny Herd failed the make the team in Peter Gilbert's absence, instead Luke Prosser found himself in the side, at left back (!), Johnny your finished at the Hall mate, as did Sofiene Zaaboub.

Both loanees signed Friday, Oxford United's Jack Midson and QPR's Antonio German made their debut, as both Barry Corr and Blair Sturrock were rested to trhe subs bench.

And after Colin Daniel gave Macclesfield the lead with a low shot in the area as early as the 8th minute, it was the QPR teenager German that stepped up, that's the cockiness of youth for you, to equalise from the penalty spot, given just after the half-hour when Aristote Nsiala was adjudged to have fouled Zaaboub.

The home side retook the lead though two minutes after the break when Lewis Chambers crossed for Nathaniel Brown to head home from close range.

In the 67th minute a double substitution which was to change the game, Barry Corr on for the tirering Antonio German, Ryan Hall replacing Sofiene Zaaboub.

It did the trick for Luggy, with both involved in the equaliser, Hall providing the cross finding Corr lurking with intent in the Silkmen penalty area and placing the ball into the bottom left hand corner, no missed chance this time around!

The Shrimpers went further forward to take the tie but it was not to be and both sides return to south-east Essex for a replay at Roots Hall on, probably, Tuesday week, while retaining interest in Sunday afternoon's live second round draw on ITV after the Southport v Sheffield Wednesday match.
