It's not a dream and Kevin Maher will have his testimonial here, Spurs?

Speaking in the pub before the Posh game there was still some sceptisim over the building of the new stadium. This is not a great time to go looking for loads of dosh and there was even talk of where we would go for a ground share! (Anywhere but Gillingham!)

However, not that anyone needed it, there is extra incentive with Ex-Captain Kev announcing that if the stadium opens when planned his well deserved testimonial will be the first major game there.

Speaking to the Southend Evening Echo he confirmed: "I'm looking forward to starting planning it and everything else that goes with it. It should be a great occasion." His first club Tottenham Hotspur must be favourites.

The soon to turn 32 year old, who signed for Oldham at the start of the season and played an hour in their opening day 4-3 win over Millwall, also spoke about life away from Roots Hall.

"It is really strange not being at Southend anymore but I couldn't wait for this season to get going," said Maher. "We have a strong squad here at Oldham and if we can keep our key players fit then I think we have a chance of being in contention towards the top. It was frustrating for me last year not playing at Southend so I'm even more fired up to play and to do well again."

Kevin already has one eye set on facing the Shrimpers in late November.

"It's going to be weird going into the away dressing room at Roots Hall but it will be nice to go back. Everything happened so quickly that I never really got a chance to say goodbye to anyone. Because of that it will be good to see the fans and the many friends I made during my time there both on and off the pitch again, but it will be strange playing against Southend after being there so long."

Maher was also quick to point out his departure was purely down to footballing reasons.

"Having to sit and watch the play-off semi-final with Doncaster was the hardest part, but nothing changes the fact that Southend will always be my club from now on. I wish Blues all the best for this season and hope both they and Oldham will be in the Championship next year."

The situation with Kevin could have been handled better after his long service but TLG now hopes everything turns out well for him at his new club. We also hope his opimism in seeing that game played in the summer of 2010 is not misplaced.
