Maher: 'Shrimpers can't be 100 per cent focused on football'

The former Southend captain, midfielder Kevin Maher, has been rumoured to be in the running to move back to Roots Hall in the summer as Tilly's No.2, though what the present Blues boss would have to say on that is yet to be printed!

Even so, in an article in the Evening Echo, Maher has made a good start in any future interview.

Maher told www.echo-news.co.uk: "It's a real shame to see what's happening there and where they are in the table."

However, watching until the last minute when he came on as a sub, Kev could see that once the first goal went in the heads went down, and that well reported events off the pitch are starting to take effect.

Maher continued: "There seemed to be a lack of desire and heart in the team on Monday, but it's understandable with what the players are going through there. I was speaking to players before and after the game and they're obviously wondering just what is going on. They can't be 100 per cent focused on football but I just hope the club can sort itself out and stay up because it still means a lot to me."
