Easton: Rhythm disrupted

Easton: 'We had a great support behind us at the b2net stadium'

Southend United midfielder and club captain Craig Easton has been stuck on the sidelines in recent weeks but has continued passing on his thoughts to the Shrimpers e-newsletter Blues Insider.

Easton said: "We had a great support behind us at the b2net stadium for the game against Chesterfield two weeks ago and anyone I have spoken to who made the long trip agrees we were unlucky not to come away with all three points. Apart from the first twenty minutes or so I felt we looked like the team more likely to score and although very disappointed, we should take a lot of confidence from playing so well against a side that are now top of the table."

Sadly, any self-belief picked up from that game was thrown away a week later in the horrible 2-0 defeat at home to Crewe.

Craig continued: "In contrast the disappointing display against Crewe at the weekend probably delivered a fair result in that I don't think we did enough to win the game. Granty had a shot blocked on the line and we should've had a penalty when Louis Soares was taken down in the first half. Had we got the rub of the green in one of these two instances the outcome might've been different but if we're being honest the performance was well below the standard set the week before."

The Shrimpers skipper knows three points would have put them in the right half of the table.
He said: "It's frustrating because we're only four points off the play-off places and before Saturdays hiccup we looked like we had found a bit of form. Our task this week has been to get back to playing consistently at the level we expect from ourselves and try not to drop too far below that even on a bad day."

Anyway, it's on to Bury now and how long it will take for Craig to re-join the first team squad.

Easton concluded: "I've still been struggling a bit with my calf, disappointingly having a bit of a setback last week after pushing on with my rehab. It's settled down quickly and although it's been longer than I expected after actually having been ahead of schedule at one point, it shouldn't be too long until I'm back training with the lads."
