Dudfield Says No To One-Year Deal

Lawrie Dudfield
The 25-year-old was offered a one-year contract by Steve Tilson but decided to reject, as did both Nicky Nicolau and Che Wilson. Dudfield has had relatively limited chances this season, the former Leicester City front-runner has been mainly restricted to substitute appearances but did manage to score seven goals.

However, despite rejecting a one-year deal, Dudfield’s agent, told the Evening Echo that Lawrie did want to stay at the club: "Lawrie won’t be signing the deal as it is at the moment, but he is still very keen to sign to stay with Southend. He and his partner are very settled in the area, she wants to stay here too with their baby, and its just a case of getting everything sorted out," then said the words that confirmed that Dudfield has definitely not left Roots Hall just yet: "We are still in negotiations with the club".

However despite Dudfield’s reluctance to leave Roots Hall, he has got other offers from Huddersfield Town, one of the Shrimpers League One rivals, and also from Macclesfield Town and Bristol Rovers who are both in League Two.

The striker is currently on holiday in America but should return soon and hopefully Southend fans will know whether Lawrie will be a Blues player next season in the next fortnight.
