Dougie limps off but Barny takes advantage

It was a bit of a surprise when Tilly decided to drop top scorer Lee Barnard before Saturday's 1-1 draw at Boundary Park, four goals in his last six games isn't bad, and sure enough Dougie's old thighs went again forcing him off at half-time.

Poor Dougie, he's missed large parts of this season through injury and we'll have to wonder how many times we'll actually see him starting next season, though 5 goals in 12 starts (plus 6 appearances as sub) shows he can still do the business. (Anyone who saw his 9 star performance which got us the result at Crewe will appreciate that even at 35 on May 25 he's worth making the time for.)

Blues boss Steve Tilson told the Echo: "Dougie's thigh has tightened up again and that's why he had to come off. We're not sure just how bad it is at this stage."

The good Lord appeared much to the joy of the Shrimper faithful, who had already sung out his name when seeing him warm up at the away end, and he rewarded us all with his 11th goal of the season to make sure of a deserved point.

Lee also spoke to the Echo about being unhappy at being left out but pleased that his partnership with Watford loanee Theo Robertson once again paid off.

"The manager told me his reasons but it was disappointing for me. You have to show the right attitude though and it was good to come off the bench to score. Theo did well to spot me and it's another good point for us. It wasn't the best of games and the pitch made it hard as well but our fans were great again and we wanted to give them something to sing about."

Blues' No. 2 goalkeeper Ian Joyce was absent from the game after sustaining a finger injury. His place on the bench was taken by Clark Masters.
