Dickinson: 'I couldn't understand why some Plymouth Argyle fans were calling me Judas'

Dickinson: 'Did feel bad because Chopper is still after his first goal'
Shrimpers striker Liam Dickinson said 'I'm back' in the best possible way, by finding the old onion bag following his return from a three match suspension via the penalty spot for Southend's opening goal in the 2-0 win over struggling Plymouth Argyle, who sacked manager Peter Reid after breaking a club record for successive defeats!
Throughout the match though Liam had to put up with a stream of abuse from the travelling Pilgrims faithful, and took the chance to tell his side of the story of why he isn't applying his trade at Home Park after being offered a season long deal.
Dickinson told
www.echo-news.co.uk:
“I had a medical at Plymouth and they felt that because of the situation they’re in they couldn’t take any chances with my ankle. I thought I had a point to prove against them so I was delighted to score but I couldn’t quite understand why some of their fans were calling me Judas because it was the club who decided to cancel my contract, not me.”
It has to be said it was a pretty fine penalty, good effort to save by the Argyle keeper as well, his fourth goal as a Shrimper, but it seems old Bomber wanted to get in on the act, and wideboy Ryan Hall!
Dickinson explained: “I did feel bad because Chopper is still after his first goal but I’d scored the last two and wanted to take it. Ryan Hall wanted it as well but he had no chance and I was really pleased to see the penalty go in to get back among the goals after my ban.”
And so were we!
