Defence the key for Yeovil says Clarke

After conceded 11 goals in three games, Blues have tightened things up at the back to the extent they have kept clean sheets in two of their last three outings.

Blues centre back Peter Clarke is demanding another strong display at Huish Park on Saturday.

Speaking to the Southend Evening Echo Clarkey said: "We've been working hard on improving our defending as a team and recently we've been doing much better, so long may that continue. We've been going through things in training with the midfield and making sure we were cutting off space better and in the last few weeks we've been doing that. We need to do that consistently now, starting at Yeovil, because with the players we have going forward we always look likely to score at the other end."

Suprisingly Southend have fielded three different goalkeepers in their last three games. But on loan Aussie Adam Federici, who followed in the foot-steps of Steve Mildenhall and Ian Joyce when he made his debut last Friday, will stay in the side.

However Clarkey, who scored at Huish Park in a 3-0 win last season, is looking to build up a good understanding the Aussie No. 1.

"It's important that we do that and it will come the more games we all play together. You expect to maybe play in front of three different keepers during the course of a season because of injuries and suspensions. But three in three games is a little bit unusual. We've done well though and now we're looking to keep it going at Yeovil. They haven't had the best of starts this season and we want to go there and pile a bit more misery on them."
